NEWBURY STREET · BOSTON

Newbury Street Boston

At the corner of Newbury and Exeter Streets in Boston’s Back Bay, Pointknown documented a historically significant Richardsonian Romanesque building originally constructed in 1884–85 as the First Spiritual Temple. Designed by Hartwell and Richardson, the structure has evolved over time—from a place of worship to the Exeter Street Theatre (1914–1984), and today a mixed-use space housing a school and restaurant. This layered history made accurate existing-conditions documentation essential for future planning and preservation.

Deliverables
Revit Model + DWG Plans & Elevations
Location
Boston, MA
Use Case
Planning & Preservation
Measured once. Delivered ready for design.
What was documented
We captured the full building, including interior spaces, exterior façades, and architectural detailing characteristic of its historic style. The scope ensured all structural elements and exterior conditions were documented, preserving both the building’s geometry and its architectural character.
What was delivered
The project was delivered as a comprehensive, multi-format dataset. This included a detailed Revit model, 3D DWG files, 2D CAD plans and elevations, and a SketchUp model—providing flexibility for design teams working across platforms.
Why it matters
Buildings with multiple historical uses often contain complex geometry and undocumented changes. A precise digital baseline reduces uncertainty, supports renovation and adaptive reuse, and helps maintain the integrity of historically significant architecture in a dense urban setting like Back Bay.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

A complete existing conditions package, from reality capture to usable deliverables.
