University Club Boston

University Club Boston

Boston, Massachusetts

The University Club of Boston is one of the city’s enduring private institutions, with a history that reaches back to 1891. After its original home on Beacon Street, the Club moved to its current clubhouse at 40 Trinity Place in 1926. Over time, the property evolved alongside a changing Back Bay, including the era when the Club became a tenant during development of the neighboring John Hancock Tower, and later reacquired a portion of its original building holdings. Today, the University Club remains one of Boston’s premier social and athletic clubs—historic, active, and continuously adapting to modern needs.

Pointknown was engaged by ARC to document the existing building and develop a full Revit model to support future planning, renovation, and design. The project encompassed approximately 38,000 square feet across five levels, including three floors above grade, a basement, and a sub-basement.

To reduce disruption and capture the building efficiently, fieldwork began early on a Sunday morning. Using SLAM-based reality capture, handheld and tripod-mounted laser measuring tools, and extensive photo and video documentation, we recorded the full interior as well as roof conditions. Control measurements were taken throughout to verify geometry and support accurate downstream modeling.

That field data was then processed into a coordinated Revit model of the entire facility, giving the design team a dependable existing-conditions base to work from. On historic urban buildings like this, good information matters. When the existing conditions are resolved clearly and early, teams can move faster and make better decisions with more confidence.
